| Directors' Notes |
Actors generally love the chance to play an outrageous
character to
show the audience something out of the ordinary and to indulge
harmlessly in more exciting and risky thoughts and situations than
we find in an eight to five job, or dealing with the every day
stumbling blocks of existence. We almost always act for our own
entertainment as well as that of the audience. It s a deal we tacitly
make when we sell you a ticket. The characters you will see in Run
for Your Wife are a stretch of the imagination, as is the plot.
You
may see a bit of your neighbor, but no one quite as bizarre or
outlandish as the comedian on stage. The secret to enjoying this
tale is to laugh at the foolishness and disregard the shock of topics
that are not usually addressed. At times the British are far less
inhibited than we Americans. It allows them to laugh with great
vigor at what really is meant to be great fun and foolishness, even
though it requires that we remove our rose colored glasses and
admit that there are kindred spirits in the world more bizarre than
we recognize. Run for Your Wife is offered as entertainment. No
one appears as themselves. None of the affectations you will see
belong to the actors who portray them. I hope you will enjoy the
evening's escape.
